本日登場するスゴい人は、1962年のデビュー以来50年以上もの間第一線で活躍し続ける日本を代表するファッションデザイナー。
彼女は、年2回のコレクションを100回以上休まず開催。
パリコレクションには1975年から2008年まで33年間参加。
また、劇団四季「フィガロの結婚」や「ピーターパン」「もっと泣いてよフラッパー」をはじめとする舞台や、映画「ふしぎな岬の物語」（今秋10月11日全国一斉公開予定)の主演 吉永小百合さんの衣裳を手掛ける。
2006年にはNewsweek誌日本版の「世界が認めた日本人女性100人」に選出された。
1985年よりパリのギャラリーヴィヴィエンヌにブティックを持ち、日本のみならず世界で活躍を続けるスゴい人の生き方とは？
さあ・・・ファッションデザイナー鳥居ユキ様の登場です！
「あきらめない」
祖母と母がブティックを営んでいて、15歳頃から生地の仕入れに行く母について行っていたのですが、気に入った生地がなかなか見つからずオリジナルで生地を作ってもらい、自分の着たい形に作ってもらっていました。
それが楽しくて、気がついたら自然にこの道に進んでいました。
1975年パリで初めてショーをした時は、すべてが分からないことだらけで無我夢中でした。
当時パリで仕事をするなんて本当に大変なことでしたが、実際にそこに身を置いて仕事をすることで色々なことを吸収できたと思います。
当時、日本人が向こうでショーをするというのはどうしても一回で終わりというイメージがあったけれど、私は最初から長く続けたかったんです。
「ユキトリヰ」を打ち出せるように、小さいけれど自分の個性が出るコレクションを目指していました。
向こうでお店を出す時も、母はサンジェルマンに出したがっていたのですが、私はギャラリーヴィヴィエンヌの雰囲気がとても気に入りどうしても譲れなくて、出店を決めました。
当時はマイナーな場所でしたが、今となっては「素敵な場所にお店を出して良かったわね！」と言われます。
どんなことでも自分の強い思い入れがあることがとても大事ですね。
私はあまり苦労をしたと思っていないのですが、ファッションには流行があるから自分と合わない時代もあります。
でも、波に乗っていない時こそ自分の個性は何であるのかを見つめなおすいい機会だと思っています。
例えうまく行かないことがあっても、仕事があると落ち込んでいられないから忘れられるんです。
いつも仕事のことを考えていますね。
それに、常にリズムを崩さず自然体でいるのが良いのだと思います。
今は来年の春夏のコレクションを考えていますが、デザイナーとしての仕事は生涯ずっと続けていきたいと思っています。
舞台や映画の衣裳なども機会を頂ければもっとやりたいですね。
夢をかなえるには、簡単にあきらめない事。
想いは遂げられるものだから、その想いを持ち続け、日々努力する事が大事なのです。

She began her career as a fashion designer in 1962, active now for over 50 years. She hold a fashion show once every two years, a tradition which has continued 100 times without fail. From 1975 – 2008, she has been participating in the Paris fashion collection.
In addition, this woman has designed costumes for the Shiki Theatrical Company (Gekidan Shiki) productions of “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Peter Pan,” “Cry More, Flapper” (Motto naiteyo, Flapper), in addition to the costumes of stars like Yoshinaga Sayuri in movies such as “Story of a Strange Peak” (Fushigina Misaki no Monogatari).

"Never give up"
My grandmother and my mother ran a textile shop, so I often went to buy fabric with my mother since the time I was 15.
Suitable fabric was not found easily, so we asked fabric shops to create our original fabric, and make our original clothing using these fabrics. At that time I felt that it was quite fun to create one’s original clothing, so I decided to become a fashion designer.
When I held my first fashion show in Paris in 1975, I worked nervously because there were a lot of things that I did not know.
At that time it was a very difficult thing for Japanese people to work in Paris.
But through working in that hard situation, I gained a good many important things.
At that time people generally thought that it was impossible to hold a fashion show continuously, but I wanted to do it.
I tried to express my original concepts through the fashion shows even if the shows were very small.
When I planned to open my own boutique in Paris, my mother recommended me to open at Saint Germain instead. But I rejected her proposal because I was really impressed by the Gallery Vivient already, so I opened it there. Gallerie Vivient was a very minor place at that time. These days, many people comment to me how they think, "You opened your boutique at very nice location!” I think that every little decision you make must be founded in your own strong opinion.
I do not think that I have experienced too much hardship over the years.
There is a fashion trend and it changes rapidly, of course, so there is a time that my designs do not suit the trend.
If the trend does not match my style, I think that it is good opportunity to rethink myself deeply.
Even if there were to come a time when everything did not go well, I should not mind it, because one way or another I need to continue to work. I try to keep my own pace and have inner poise always.
I am thinking about my next spring-summer collections these days.
I would like to work as a fashion designer for the rest of my life.
And if there is an opportunity to create clothes for plays or movies, I would like to do it more often.
If you want to make your dream happen, you must never give up easily.
The most important thing to make your dream a reality is to believe in yourself and do your best every day.
