『He shares his remarks on how to prevent war.』

In January of 2003, right before the Iraqi war, we were discussing how to stop the war.

We came up with an idea that the only country that currently has a good relationship with Europe, the United Sates, Middle East (namely Palestine, Iraq, and Israel) is Japan. Therefore, Japan should should take action to stop the war.

At that time, the Japanese government did not seem as if it would take any action. After all, Prime Minister Koizumi was very much in support of the United States and it seemed that Japan was for the most part censured in regards to Iraq.

But ultimately, we organized the peace talks between the United States and Iraq.

By using the our wide connections, we were able to meet with the sector of Japanese government who had a direct connection with president of Iraq at the time; Saddam Hussein.

The day of we departed was the day the country gave evacuation orders in preparation for disaster. It was a month before the war began.

We took built up our caravan and moved from Amman in Jordan to Baghdad with in 1200km in desert.

I stayed at the hotel called Al Rasheed Hotel which President Hussein provided us. We visited the palace every day in hopes of furthering the discussion towards peace.

Finally, the president decided that if Japan will mediate between Iraq and the United Sates, then Iraq will present the Enabling Act.

We tried to contact the Prime Minister, however Koizumi had already decided to support the United Sates.

Since the situation was getting worse, we decided to go back to Japan without completing the plan.

When I returned to Japan, I saw on television how Iraq had been attacked by the US army.

I could not achieve my goal, but we had done such big things already. Anyone would have thought it would be impossible to meet President Hussein. This experience gave me a huge sense of courage in my life.

I proved that nothing is impossible.

In the future, I will continue to think of the way Japan ought to be, and what I can do for my country.
